CREATION/ OVER CONSUMPTION
No food, no vices for 100 days.
This entire project is built on that decision.
To stop consuming and create instead.
While the world urges, more pleasure, more comfort, I've chosen less.
I've chosen to give up everything unnecessary.
To ask a deeper question, what is the true cost of consumption?
This project is made up of seven pieces.
The first is my own body, my sacrifice. The physical transformation that will happen while not consuming.
For 100 days water is the ONLY thing I'm consuming, no food, juices or calories.
The remaining six pieces examine what we consume and how it consumes us.
Food
Media
Drugs
Sex
Violence
False redemption
Each piece is personal, and I'll be creating all of them while not consuming within the next 100 days.
These aren't abstract ideas. I've lived them. I've seen what addiction does to a young boy and a city alike. I've witnessed the emptiness behind pleasure and fallen for lust. I felt the heartache of violence, and have seen a world addicted to escape. We confuse indulgence with freedom, but what happens when we stop? This project isn't just about what we consume. It's about what we avoid. Avoiding pain, truth, growth and each other. I believe there's something sacred in choosing discomfort for the sake of clarity I believe creation should cost something, so this is my offering. Seven works, one starving artist, in a world which feeds on attention.
